I live in a small town where the largest employer is closing and 1200 people are will lose their jobs. I have taken off a couple of years to be home with my 23-mo old. An ad ran in the local paper for a job that is -EXACTLY– what i want and need. Base + commission, own hours, overhead paid, an existing book of business to be handed over to the new person. The retiring person will train for several months. It just so happens that I worked for the person who owns the company 20 yrs ago in high school. It also happens that his now partner I babysat for 25 years ago. However, I have been gone for 18 yrs–since high school. So although I am a home town girl, I have no reputation. But, I had a very very successful ride with my “current” employer, (I sell insurance, and have been maintaining my current accounts only). Rookie of the Year, #1 Sales in state, etc. Should I ask some of my accounts, policyholders to send a tasteful referral? Im competing with people w/ yrs of experience.
The people I would ask to write a letter would not be my regular references. For example, the policyholder who thinks I did a great job helping him with his claim. The HR person who allowed me to sell my insurance at his company because of my professionalism, persistance, etc.

I’ve been self employed since roughly 1996 making and selling soy candles as well as sewing home decor and fashions. The economy started to take a nosedive and people stopped spending money on my products the other year and I’d gotten to the point where I needed to seek outside employment. I am currently in school to become an RN. My problem is building a resume w/o having worked for someone else, I have lots of skills that go along with everything from production to bookkeeping but I have no professional references to attest to those skills as the people I interacted with on a daily basis were suppliers or customers whom I’ve never had face to face interactions with.

Any tips on building such a resume would be helpful!

It was at the the end of a day-long sales training program with a group when one of the business owners piped up, “What we need are some gay guys to sell our merchandise.” She was asked, “Why specifically gay men?”

She answered, “Because when we visited stores yesterday in the City, they were out and willing to tell anyone in a matter-of-fact way. They were personable, fun, you just wanted to buy from them.” I understood from her descriptions of several of these guys why she would want them to work for her.

1. What are the company’s major information security
threats?
2. Develop a security awareness training plan for employees
and franchisees.
3. Which Internet-based data backup plans should be
used?
4. Review data retention requirements for various types of
records.impact of security, disaster planning, and data retention:
Meredith (President and Owner) “I never
realized that security and disaster planning involved
everyone in the company. I thought I could leave it all to
Abe, but now I see that everyone needs to be aware of our
plans, which might impact multiple departments.”
Suzanne (VP of Studios) “I now know that we
need to focus on the role of our employees in handling
disasters.”
Leda (VP of Franchises) “Our franchisees are
always calling me for information. I usually never question
the identity of the person at the other end of the line.
Now I am implementing a method for verifying that the
person is an actual franchisee.”
Mitch (VP of Bead Bar on Board) “I use passwords
to protect my notebook computer and PDA. In the
past I always used my birthday and I never changed my
password. Now my password is complicated, using letters,
numbers, and punctuation.”
Julia (Chief Financial Officer) “We are
increasingly relying on information systems to process
financial data. As the CFO, I need to work with Abe to
ensure our data retention requirements are met.”
Miriam (VP of Marketing and Sales) “My
department regularly gives out marketing information to
other managers and studio employees. We need to
develop a system to ensure that only people who should
have access to this information, get this information.”
Rachel (VP of Operations and Purchasing) “I
am in the process of working with Abe to develop a comprehensive
disaster recovery plan. He will handle the
computer systems aspect, but I need to determine what
each of our employees should do in the event of a disaster.
I am also working to ensure that we have multiple
vendors for all our important products. Finally, physical
security is part of my responsibility. So I am reviewing our
physical access controls.”
Jim (Director of Human Resources) “My
main objective is to develop a security and disaster recovery
training plan for our employees. In addition, Rachel
and Abe would like me to work with temporary companies
to fill key positions in the event of a disaster. Abe has
also asked me to implement specific policies as they
relate to security and disaster recovery.”
Abe (Chief Information Officer) “I’m working
on an information security plan that includes technical,
procedural, and educational approaches. This plan
will touch multiple departments. I need to work with Julia
on data retention, Rachel on disaster recovery, and Jim on

I was hired on 5/22 as a Personal Trainer and membership salesman at HOUSTON GYM. During my employment I was given a sales manual to train me on how to sell and told to buy an online certification course. I was told I’d be given THREE MONTHS to be ready to train clients. I was told this ONE WEEK before I was fired. On the day I was fired I was told I wouldnt get a check until 7/15 by a manager. However when I went to the owner he said id get it on june 15th. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes. On the day I was fired I asked for a copy of my timecard. I was gieven the runaround, lied to, etc. I really feel like they’re trying to screw me and only pay me for the last day I worked because they never produced a w4 form for me to fill out until 3 days before they fired me. How do i keep them from screwing me out of my check when Im flat broke now?? I live in Houston Texas if that helps any.

Is this a good college admittance essay?

If you could give me any pointers or make any corrections for my college application essay it would be greatly appreciated. :)

The prompt is:
Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why this person is important to you.

Burnt orange, yellow and red fill the canvas as the man creates a new landscape scene similar to those of the famous painter, Thomas Kinkade. Secluded in the corner of his office, the man works lively and with near-professional skill. As the painter’s brush cascades the woven fabric, a scene of a sunrise with a lonely cottage fills the frame. This man, whose many paintings have been sold at the nearest crafts store, gathered by friends and family, and displayed in his home, would not cross anyone’s mind when asked who the artist of the painting was. This man was my grandfather.
